"The Pilates method teaches you to be in control of your body and not at its mercy." Joseph Pilates
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method of exercise created by the late, great Joseph H Pilates in the early 1920’s. Throughout his life Pilates dedicated himself to developing his system, devising exercises and a range of equipment designed to improve physical and mental health.
Pilates exercises incorporate the whole body and are performed with precision and control to help re-balance muscle use through the entire body. There is a focus on working from the centre of your body, engaging your core stability muscles, and using the correct muscles for each movement. Benefits of Pilates include increased strength and flexibility, improved balance and posture, and pain free functional movement with optimal muscle balance around the joints.

Who is Pilates for?
Everyone! We teach clients of all ages and abilities from 14 to 80 years of age.
Pilates is a safe and effective form of exercise which can be adapted to suit individual needs and practised at an individual pace; from gentle post injury exercises to regain strength and mobility, up to a demanding full body, cardio workout. Movement is controlled, mindful and flowing. Pilates is as much a workout for the mind as for the body.
Pilates is a great complement to other sporting and fitness activities, strengthening your core and increasing flexibility, and optimising alignment and movement patterns.
What do we offer?
At the Pilates Barn, Ropley we provide a dedicated and relaxing space where you will find experienced STOTT Pilates Teachers and small, friendly group classes.
Our classes are small (maximum of 8) so we can closely observe your movements, helping you get the most out of your Pilates session. We want you to gain more body awareness and an understanding of your own posture, and have a greater confidence in your body.
You will work hard but in a safe and controlled manner.
